He will surprise us when we least expect it

Little step, little step, little step…look for the opportunityKeith Kochner

Along my hustle with heart journey that started after accepting Christ in 2015, it took me a while to understand that success didn’t mean taking big leaps. To learn that God blesses our obedience and obedience is often simply taking small steps at His direction. Because when we are abiding in Him, He can exponentially multiply those steps, for His glory and our good.  The best part is, He will surprise us when we least expect it.

In Jeremiah 33:3 we are reminded of His sovereignty: “Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.” Following Christ is our greatest adventure, and we’re called to be obedient even when we can’t see the outcome.  We ask for His wisdom and direction, then obediently take the steps, walking in faith that He will use those steps for His glory.  Sometimes the outcome doesn’t show up right away.  Then one day you look up and everything around you is popping like popcorn, and you can’t quite quantify it.  It doesn’t seem to make sense. Maybe you didn’t do as much work as you thought it would take, and you were beating yourself up thinking you hadn’t done enough. But the amount of work isn’t the point.  It’s obedience that matters! Those results, seemingly when you least expect them, show us His great and mighty work.

I recently experienced this in my own business.  About early December I was lamenting about what business would come in Q1 of this year. It was that quiet point just before Christmas when it seems nothing is happening and you’re taking the steps, but it seems everyone must have taken the rest of the year off.  Two weeks later, when I least expected it, the popcorn starts popping.  A new client here, a new contract there. Pop, pop, pop. His great and mighty movement in my business that I didn’t know or understand or distinguished.  How awesome that He is always with us, even when we can’t seem to see Him moving. He’s just waiting for us to call to Him, to obediently step where and when He directs us, then have faith and trust that He will move in His timing and for His glory

Let’s remember this as we do the work He’s called us to do. Lifting our prayers to Him, asking for His direction.  And know that, while the outcome may not look the way we want, it is always perfect and perfectly timed.  Often when we least expect it.
